The Ondo state governor came down from his car today, to find a
crowd of people protesting against his government. They were
demonstrating against the backlog of salaries the government has been
oweing them for the past five months.
Reports from the state said that various government parastatals
were being owed months of salaries in arrears, and last week civil
workers a state wide strike. Going into this week, the government
hadn't addressed the situation hence, the protest.
The workers protested right in front of the Gov. Segun Mimiko's
office and refused to let him in when he arrived. Prompting him to get
down from his car to plead with the aggrieved workers. He tried to
explain the reason for the shortfall. He said the government was
almost broke and could not just meet its responsibilities of paying
workers.
Workers in the state have decided that as long they remain
unpaid, the strike will continue.
