FOREX: NIGERIAN STUDENTS ABROAD ARE COMING BACK HOME

A lot of Nigerian students schooling abroad have revealed that the
foreign exchange problem the country is going through has affected
them so much that they can't cope with it again. And so they are
coming back home to complete their studies in Nigerian schools, punch
reports
. The students have decided that since exchange rates have
become so high and foreign currency too expensive for their parents to
afford , there's no need stressing themselves. Just come back home and
get a good university that would be cheaper, rather than wait for a
forex that will never get better.
A student was asked why and in what ways the problem was
affecting him most, he replied by saying that it was general , and
that paying their fees at school and also buying textbooks had become
a major issue as parents are always complaining that forex is scarce.
Even feeding and pocket money can't even be gotten without extremely
long delays.
Nigeria is currently the largest source of foreign students and
if these students should start coming home, it could really be some
big time loss for schools abroad. Especially schools with a high
population of foreign students. Most of Nigerians schooling abroad
according to records are schooling in America, Canada and UK.
Anyway its good business for private schools, who are just ready
to swallow up the population of home coming Nigerians. Many private
universities who have been contacted on the availability of space have
indicated readiness to take in the foreign students as they come.
Schools like babcock and Veritas have indicated their interest in
accepting the foreign students, and have even gone ahead to encourage
the parents to enrol their children with them. Promising standard
facilities similar to to what they have abroad.
The vice chancellor of one the private universities said it was
completely logical for parents who could not afford the current
exchange to simply withdraw their kids and enrol them at home. He also
added that he hadn't received in request for transfers yet, but that
he was ready to accept qualified foreign students.
However, students without Nigerian passport will have to write the
entrance exams organised by JAMB just like other students.
