AFTER ORLANDO KILLINGS: US SENATE CAN'T DECIDE ON GUN CONTROL.

A week after the Orlando killings in a night club, the US
senate yesterday failed to agree on enactable gun control laws to the
states. The Democrats and republicans had put forward amendments to
the standing gun laws to ensure that firearms do not find their way
into the possession of prospective terrorists. But all the proposals
fell through and none could scale up to 60 votes, the minimum number
needed to clear a procedural hurdle in the senate.
All four proposals(suggestions) to expand security checks on gun
sales and purchases fell through. Even a compromise could no be
reached to keep fire arms away from people on FBI's terrorism
watchlist. This happened as the parents and family members watched
with tears in their eyes from the gallery of the senate house, as the
realisation dawned on them that no viable conclusion will be reached.

EFCC FIRES BACK! The Aisha Buhari in Jefferson scandal is NOT Buhari's wife!

The Aisha Buhari named in the bribery scandal involving a U.S.
Congressman, Williams Jefferson, is not the Aisha that is President
Muhammadu Buhari's wife, a former chairman of the Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Lamorde, has told PREMIUM TIMES.
"I can tell you authoritatively that the Aisha
Buhari named in that case is not President
Buhari's wife," Mr. Lamorde said when contactedTuesday morning.
"It is another Aisha Buhari entirely."
"I was the director of operations at the EFCC at
the time so I know about the case very well. I can
tell you that it is not her (President Buhari's wife). That much we
established."

These statements were made as an answer to the governor of
Ekiti state- Governor Fayose Ayodele after he (maybe ignorantly)
claimed yesterday that the wife of the president Aisha Buhari was
mentioned as being part of a scandal involving a former US
congressman.
Mr. Lamorde who was the EFCC chairman prior to the time he was
removed by the current president has insisted that Aisha Buhari the
wife of President Buhari has nothing to do with william Jefferson's
scandal. It would be remembered that just yesterday, Fayose while
reacting to the freezing of his Zenith bank accounts by EFCC had also
accused Buhari of being corrupt. In his words: "Buhari himself is not
an angel." He also added: "The estate he built in Abuja is known to
us. His
wife was indicted over the Halliburton Scandal. When that American,
Jefferson, was being
sentenced, the President's wife was mentioned as
having wired $170,000 to Jefferson. Her name
was on page 25 of the sentencing of Jefferson".
The media director of the governor even went ahead to distributed
copies of the court document. Which on its page 22 stated clearly
that Jefferson had been the recepient of the sum of $170,000 that was
transferred from the account of one Aisha Buhari. The US at that time
sought the help of the Nigerian authorities in investigating the
identity of the Aisha Buhari. And Lamorde who was in charge of the
investigation then, insists that the Aisha mentioned isn't the wife of
any Nigerian president.
If we should go by the supposed truth in Lamorde's statement;Mr.
Fayose I think you should take a lesson on "the proper way to witch
hunt your enemies" and not going about lighting up fires of false
rumours.

BUHARI STOPS EIGHT YEAR TENURE FOR PERM SECS AND DIRECTORS.

As part of an agenda to sustain stability and reduce corruption in
the civil service, president Buhari has declared the suspension of
double tenures for permanent secretaries and directors. So its now
just a single term of four years only renewable on the condition of
satisfactory service for another four years. And that's it.
And not just that, civil servants will also be forced to retire at
age 60 or after 35 years in service. This new policy was passed around
the civil service parastatals, Ministries Department Agencies by the
national head of civil service in the federation-Mrs. Wynifried
Oyo-Ita through a circular.
The circular read in part:
As part of the continuing reforms in the Federal Civil Service,
Government has found it necessary to develop a policy that will renew
and reinvigorate the service, restore morale of officers and unlock
the creative potentials of hard-working officers. Accordingly,
Government has approved that permanent secretaries shall hold office
for a term of four years, renewable for a further term of four years,
subject to satisfactory performance, and
no more. In the case of directors, they shall compulsorily retire upon
serving eight years on the post. This approval is without prejudice to
the relevant provisions of the public service rules which prescribe 60
years of age and/or 35 years of service for mandatory retirement.
Consequently, all serving permanent secretaries
and directors who would have spent eight years
on post by 1st January 2010, the effective date
of this provision, are hereby notified for the
purpose of commencing their pre-retirement
activities, when due."
Well apart from some domestic stuff like having his bath and
breakfast, the decision was the president's first since he came back
from UK on sunday. Not so bad, atleast we get to know the 'boss' is
back.
